La vigna

This 7-hectare vineyard is planted on the slopes of an ancient, extinct volcanic crater, known as Monte Serra. The vineyard has a flatter portion and a much steeper one which reaches almost 500 meters in elevation. Its situation location on the South-East side of Etna, not far from the sea, allows it to benefit from intense sea breezes, which mitigate the summer heat.

The vines’ training system at the bottom of the vineyard is the Trellis, based on straight rows of vines sharing a support system made of wires, whereas the higher portion of the estate are planted according to the Bush system, known locally as Alberello Etneo, which is based on individual stakes supporting each vine.

The vineyard epxloits the concept of high-density planting to ensure competition among vines and, consequently, naturally low production yields and high quality. We, as growers and producers, further reduce yields by only allowing a limited number of bunches to grow on each vine.

In this vineyard, we grow red grapes (Nerello Mascalese) and white grapes (Carricante), to make the most of the versatility of this specific portion of the Etna wine region, which is very suitable for both grape varieties.
